Mark began studying music at St. Bernadette grammar school. Mentored by Mike Loupe, Mark was reading both treble and bass clefs at a young age while playing saxophone and bass guitar. At Vandebilt Catholic High School, Mark played bass guitar in the pit for marching band and sousaphone and trombone in the concert band.
After graduating high school, Mark entered University of New Orleans majoring in Jazz Performance. He studied Jazz Harmony with Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste and Jazz Improvisation with Terence Blanchard. His private instructors while at UNO were Chris Severin and Bill Huntington. Mark was also the upright bassist in Terence Blanchard's highly regarded UNO Jazz Combo.
After college Mark hit the road with Amy Trail (2003-04), Rockin' Jake (2005-09), Tab Benoit (2009-10) and Josh Garrett (2011). In 2012, Mark moved to Lafayette to be an instructor at Acadiana Center for the Arts and School of Rock.
Wanting to do more performing, Mark relocated back to New Orleans in 2014 to immerse himself in the vibrant music scene and still resides there today. While maintaining a busy schedule teaching guitar, piano and bass, Mark is a fixture in the New Orleans music scene. Smoke N Bones, Greg Hicks and Friends, Hacienda Brass Band, NOLA Dukes are only a few of the bands he has played with regularly along with countless pickup gigs with New Orleans' best players. Mark is also a trusted choice for substitution work and is frequently filling in for well-respected musicians, most notably George Porter, Jr. Mark plays solo acoustic guitar gigs in various venues around the city such as Junior's on Harrison and New Orleans Museum of Art. On top of all that, he still makes time for his solo project, Titanic Kryvanick.
When Mark's not playing or teaching music, he tends his pepper garden like a proud farmer and makes gourmet hot sauces in small batches.
